Laws and Treaties: The Ongoing Struggle for Recognition and Protection
At the present time the following Laws and Treaty’s were intended to protect us as Indigenous People. However as History would prove, the very Rule of Law that we are expected to live by as Civilized Intelligent People has not been honoured or followed by the Government of Canada. Ever since the Nation to Nation agreement we made that is supported in the Canadian Constitution by the Royal Proclamation, Indigenous People continue to struggle with the injustices that continue through every generation. Having said that, it can be interpreted that The Anishinaabe of the Kitchizibi First Nation citizens are protected under the following Laws.
*Note: AOKFN is currently not recognized by the Government of Canada, therefore although it is written in Law that we are protected. When it comes to taxes or Harvesting Rights we must continue our fight to negotiate out of good faith with the Government of Canada a new agreement moving forward. This section is not intended to provide Legal advice or provide Interpretations of the Law.
