Governance
Historical Documents Recognizing Our Right to Self Government
Although we are deeply rooted from many different Tribes of the Anishinaabe, our Ancestors fought bravely and rightfully so, for our survival and Rights to our Lands and Way of Life. The Anishinaabe of the Kitchizibi and its members have completely disassociated ourselves from other First Nations or Metis whom are attempting to use our bloodlines, research, efforts and history for their own personal gain.
Having said that historically speaking regardless of Proclamations, Treaties or other agreements. Petition 115 from our Ancestor Chief Pierre Shawanapenesi clearly has an agreement from the “Crown” that we are entitled to Hunt and Fish and live in Peace as our own Nation with the same Rights as any other Reserve. The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP C-15) confirms this.
Currently as we aim to build and exercise our Rights to Self Determination, our Governance is limited to the persons volunteering their time, in hopes, to benefit our descendants 7 generations from now. Departments we are looking at developing are not limited to the following;
- Ogichidaa Services
- Including future generation Ogichidaa’s & Young Hunters
- Includes Fishing, Hunting & all Types of Harvesting
- Health & Wellness
- Includes Mental Health & Addictions
- Includes Facilities
- Infrastructure and Development
- Includes AOKFN Permit Issue’s & Compliance
- Family Resources
- Includes all children and programs aimed to help develop and educate for future generations
